How Old Do You Have to Be to Get a Work Permit in the US

The legal age to get a work permit in the US is between the ages of 14 to 17. If you are between the ages of 14 and 17, it is important that you get in touch with the Department of Labor and Licensing Regulation Body for your region to procure your Minor Work Permit. If you are aged 18 or more you don't fall under the Minor Work Permit category.
None of the teenagers can apply for a work permit without procuring a job offer. If you are a Teenager in the US aged between 14 and 17, you will be required to fill in an application for the Work Permit after you get the job offer. The application form will require you to fill in the details of the employer hiring you, the details of the job, and the proposed duties related to your entitled occupation.
You should also note that based on the age range you fall in to, there are going to be restrictions on the number of hours you can work.
On an average, those who are between the ages of 14 to 15 are allowed to work for:
Only 4 hours a day during the working days of the school.
Not more than 8 hours during the non-working days of the school.
Those who are between the ages of 16 to 17 are allowed to spend a total of 12 hours a day, splitting the time between school and work:
      · If you have a non-working day in school, you can work for 12 hours in a day.
      · If you have 6 hours of school, then you can work 12 minus 6 = 6 hours for the day. If you have 8 hours of school, then you can work only 4 hours, 12 hours minus 8 hours.
A compulsory break of 30 minutes should be allowed in cases where the ward is working for more than 5 hours. Apart from this, 8 hours of compulsory rest hours should be provided every 24 hours. This 8-hour break should not include the hours spent in school.
Regional rules might vary in a bit and you got to verify them based on your locality.
